Parenting

The goal for parenting is to protect and prepare our kids to survive and thrive in the world. I like this goal because it means that parents are trying to develop their children to become better people who will make a difference in the world. They are the future generation and they will be the ones making the changes in society.
There are basic needs that children must have that goes beyond food, water, and shelter. A child needs to have some kind of contact with others and a feeling of belonging. They also need to feel some kind of power. There are others as well, but I will just keep it to these two for now.
When a child is being raised, they want to be close with others and they like to be in some sort of contact with others. This is why it is important for parents to offer their contact freely to children. Kids want to feel loved and needed.
Children need to learn how to deal with power. Parents should be teaching their kids how to contribute to society, and be assertive but also forgiving. Kids should learn how to take responsibility and deal with the consequences of their actions. There are times when we should take away a child's power and those are times of 1. Being too dangerous 2. when the consequence is too far in the future to make an impact on them and 3. when it can harm others.
I am not a parent so I don't have years of experience, but I have been raised by parents so I do know that there were different parenting styles they used to raise me that were different than my brothers. There were things that worked for my brothers that didn't work for me and vice versa. I believe the important thing to do is find what works best for each child and remember to do your best to prepare them to survive and thrive in the world on their own.
